I suspect that I have been washing my hair with conditioner the last several weeks. My suspicions were confirmed when I finally asked my landlord. Would you have been able to tell?

Yes, I'd be able to tell. They have completely different consistencies!
Conditioner is soft and silky, and feels erally soft in your hair. It's also difficult to wash off.
Well, at least you had some ultra soft hair.
